I was going to call this the Ninjas and Vampires edition, but realised I had nothing to write about concerning vampires apart from some New Moon bashing. Anyway, let’s get on to the good stuff.

If you haven’t heard of James Cameron’s Avatar, then you should drop what you’re doing now and watch this amazing trailer. The first teaser was pretty cool, but this one is nothing short of epic. In case you have no idea who James Cameron is, he’s the mastermind behind legendary films such as Aliens, the Terminator series, Titanic, etc. You can tell from the trailer that Avatar looks pretty expensive, rumoured to have a budget hovering around $500 million in total. But Fox executives are confident that Avatar will still profit. James Cameron has never failed to deliver and judging by the trailer, Avatar will not disappoint. Get ready to queue up for it in just a little over 2 weeks. (Update: Check out Avatar’s revenues here)

One of the most well known torrent sites, Mininova.org, has done some major downsizing and limited its operations to simply Content Distribution. What does this mean? It means you can no longer find torrents for things such as TV shows, movies, music and games on Mininova. Let’s not venture into the legality argument of distributing such torrents, but there’s no denying that a large portion of people that visit Mininova use to find those kind of torrents.

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Wachowski brothers’ The Matrix, two guys have recreated the famous bullet dodge scene in Lego. While it looks simple enough, the project took around 440 hours to complete for just a 44 second clip. The clip is also frame accurate and overall quite impressive. BlockBerry

Might as well call it BarackBerry

A mobile operator in China plans to start selling BlackBerry and Palm smartphones in the country by the early 2010. While I don’t care much about this particular piece of news, it did remind me of a chinese BlackBerry Storm copy called BlockBerry, which had an advertisement featuring President Obama.

Roland Emmerich’s 2012 is currently the most pirated movie. According to TorrentFreak, the end-of-the-world disaster movie was the most downloaded last week, followed by Gerard Butler’s Gamer and Adam Sandler’s Funny People, both of which were box office flops.

Speaking of movies, if you’re in the mood for some crazy ninja action (or if you like Rain), then you should check out Ninja Assassin. Wachowski brothers’ latest work is violent, bloody and exciting. The full review can be found here.

Felicia Day’s web series The Guild had its season finale this week. I’m a huge fan of the series and I thought this season was pretty awesome. If you don’t know what The Guild is, it’s a web series about a group of online gamers. You should definitely check it out if you want to enjoy some laughs, especially if you’re a gamer. Be sure to watch from the previous seasons, all of which are available online for free.

A 13-year old boy in New York spent 11 days living in the subway system before being found by a police officer. He remained invisible despite the busy train system and lived off of snack foods found at newsstands. Apparently no one talked to him throughout the entire duration of his ‘escape’ from life. The boy even said he was prepared to spend the rest of his life in the subway system.

Google’s future Chrome OS for netbooks places speed high up on the priority list, with boot times of only about 7 seconds. The OS will be browser based and use flash memory, thus the blazing boot times. Files and data will be stored on internet-based storage. Certainly sounds interesting, but maybe also frustrating for countries with slow or unreliable internet speeds. Imagine needing to retrieve an important document only to discover your ISP somehow managed to sever the data lines.

And that is all for this week. Here is Paramore’s latest single, “Brick by Boring Brick”, featuring not a redhead Hayley, but a blonde one. And no that is not a wig.
