The Halo Video Anthology: 2005-2007
I started playing regularly and recording my games on Xlink Kai. On September 2005, I made my first ever montage using clips from just a handful of games and Pinnacle’s crappy editing software that came with the card. From then on, I kept making videos, each one trying to improve upon the previous. The last Halo video I made was a Halo 3 Beta montage. When Halo 3 finally came out, I tried to make another montage but unfortunately I was one of the few who suffered from disc read errors whenever I tried to play the game. That and my final year of A Levels led me to retire from Halowood. The following is a chronological list of all the Halo videos I’ve made, with a little info about each:
Montages
[Halo 2] First Montage Ever -With Commentary-
Release date: September 2005
Info: This was the first video I ever recorded and edited. Actually, there’s virtually no editing; just various clips sewn together. The footage was taken from just a handful of games. I was so eager to make something that I didn’t really think about the quality of the clips. I recorded a commentary over it just to make it a little bit more interesting because it’s a pretty boring montage on its own.
[Halo 2] Xlink Kai Montage -With Commentary-
Release date: November 2005
Info: After recording about a month’s worth of Xlink Kai plays, this is the result. This was the first montage I edited using Sony Vegas. I think I did a decent job with the syncing and editing. Again, I recorded commentary over the montage just for some laughs.
[Halo 2] Xbox Live Montage I
Release date: January 2006
Info: I finally got Xbox Live and started recording for my next montage. This was the result. I actually tried submitting this to Halo2Forum.com to get it hosted but it was denied because despite decent editing, my clips were trash. At the time I only compared my montage to a few older ones I had watched before, but apparently the standard went up so I got rejected. Now that I look back, the clips are pretty crap with missed snipes and taking more than half a clip to BR someone down.
[Halo 2] Impostor (aka Kean) Gets Owned
Release date: February 2006
Info: A friend of mine wanted to play some Halo 2 multiplayer but since he didn’t have Xbox Live, we had to use Xlink Kai. When I log on I find that he’s playing using my alias – MobiusVyper. So we decided to play some 1v1’s and since I was bored and wanted to punish him for using my name, I made a video out of it. This video is one of my personal favourites due to the syncing.
[Halo 2] Xbox Live Montage II
Release date: April 2006
Info: At the start of this montage it will say that it’s my “Final Montage”. The reason for this is because my Xbox got banned from Live because I forgot to deactivate the modchip before signing on. It’s obviously not really my final montage since I made a few more after I got a 360 and got my gamertag back.
[Halo 2] Xbox Live Montage II v2.0
Release date: April 2006
Info: This is another version of my second montage, but with a few extra clips from Xlink Kai plays. Originally, I was going to enter this into Halo2Forum.com’s montage competition, but decided not to since I thought it wasn’t impressive enough and was basically a multikill fest.
[Halo 2] Xlink Kai Montage II
Release date: May 2006
Info: Being banned from Live didn’t mean the end of my Halo career. I went back to Xlink Kai and started recording again.
[Halo 2] Mobius is Bad, another Halo 2 Montage
Release date: May 2006
Info: While playing on Xlink Kai, I encountered a supposed ‘team’ of players who called themselves TEAM SRS. One day the ‘team leader’ added me on MSN and started boasting about his team and how they were the best players in the country among other things. This montage is basically a big F-U to them. Right after I sent it to them, they stopped bullshitting and rarely played anymore.
[Halo 2] Xbox Live Montage III
Release date: July 2006
Info: I started recording for this montage the moment I recovered my gamertag on my brand new Xbox 360. TheĀ first half is pretty laid back while the second half is a bit more serious. There are a few clips from a game in which I caught up and won from 30 something kills against a guy that was 49 (one kill away from winning). Paanjang16, if you’re reading this, apologies for BxR-ing you in the face and stealing your victory.
[Halo 2] Xbox Live Montage IV
Release date: October 2006
Info: This is the last serious Halo 2 Live montage I made. There’s one clip edited using Adobe After Effects around the 1:30 mark where I throw a red plasma nade.
[Halo 2] Nubtage
Release date: December 2006
Info: While my friends had moved on to newer games, I still continued to play Halo 2. Unfortunately for me, this meant I was stuck with matchmaking. I decided to make yet another montage. It’s called a Nubtage because all the clips are of the nubs in matchmaking getting owned.
[Halo 2] Best Of Montage
Release date: January 2007
Info: I finally retired from Halo 2. This montage is an edit of my best and favourite clips from all the Halo 2 montages I ever made.
[Halo] Halo PC Montage
Release date: April 2007
Info: After retiring from Halo 2, I started playing some good old Halo PC with my high school friends. Having made many montages before it was inevitable that I would make another one.
[Halo 3] Beta Frenzy
Release date: June 2007
Info: This was made during the time of the Halo 3 multiplayer beta that was distributed via Crackdown. It is also the very last Halo video I made.
Other Videos
[Halo 2] Campaign Videos
Release date: October 2005
Info: These are some of the earlier videos I made. They’re not that exciting to be quite honest. I made them just to practice capturing and editing.
[Halo 2] Random Clips
Release date: January/April/May 2006
Info: A compilation of three random clips consisting of two montage trailers and one montage intro.
[Halo 2] Cheaters Caught on Video
Release date: January/September 2006
Info: This video is a compilation of the three cheaters I came across while playing Halo 2. The first shows two modders on Warlock and the second was a spammer obsessed with getting his in-game level up.
[Halo 2] AutoAim!
Release date: April 2006
Info: An incident that happened while playing on Xlink Kai. While playing with ‘Team SRS’, a random guy using the name ‘3K Ted From Work’ joined my team. After a few games in which we beat Team SRS, they start accusing Ted of using auto aim. It was quite amusing so I decided to record it.
[Halo 2] Blooper Montages
Release date: April/September 2006
Info: While recording for my montages, I would occasionally capture some funny moments. This is a compilation of two blooper montages I threw together using all the funny clips I’ve gathered.
[Halo 2] Matchmaking Games
Release date: June/October 2006
Info: Just two random videos I made out of boredom consisting of matchmaking games.
Well that’s pretty much all of it. If you’re curious to know how I made all my videos, I capture my TV screen using VirtualDub via my Dazzle 90 Capture Card. I then proceed to edit using Sony Vegas. Once completed, I render the project as a raw .AVI file. Finally, before uploading it online, I open it again in VirtualDub and encode it using x264. I will post a tutorial on how to encode using x264 sometime in the near future. In the mean time, enjoy the videos.
