Review: Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant

In light of the recent trend in vampire movies and TV shows, I did not have high expectations for The Vampire’s Assistant. I don’t recall ever seeing a trailer for it nor hearing much about it on the interwebz. My friends and I decided to watch this out of total boredom and we probably would’ve been better off saving our 10 dollars.

The starts off with a teenager named Darren Shan who meets a vampire part of a traveling freak show. After a series of unfortunate events, Darren is forced to abandon his normal life and start a new one as a vampire. It’s not overly interesting and the ending was predictable. Cirque du Freak is apparently a series of books and the ending pretty much sets up a sequel right there for the rest of the books.

Problem is, the movie may not be profitable enough for a sequel to be spawned. The Vampire’s Assistant brings nothing new to the table and most of it felt really average and run off the mill stuff. As with most Hollywood movies nowadays, there was some sort of romantic sub-plot but most of it ended up being cringe inducing and laughable.

I wish I could say there was something good about this movie, but there really isn’t anything about it worth checking out. The Vampire’s Assistant is a forgettable, generally uninteresting movie that you probably should skip unless you’re really bored and have a few dollars to burn. Perhaps younger audiences would enjoy it more than I did since the movie seemed to be aimed more at the young teenage population.
