Avatar Profits: A brief look at the numbers
As I’ve mentioned in a couple of previous posts, Avatar’s budget including promotional marketing costs are rumoured to be $500 million – half a billion dollars – making it the most expensive movie ever made. At this point in writing, Avatar has been out for just over a week and according to the current numbers at BoxOfficeMojo.com, Avatar has made a combined domestic and foreign total of $381,630,006. The breakdown is as follows:
- Domestic Gross: $125,943,053
- Foreign Gross: $ 255,686,963
While it clearly hasn’t reached break-even yet, the numbers are still pretty impressive. Keep in mind that Avatar is yet to be released in certain countries and the holiday season has just begun. I’m pretty sure Avatar will break the $500 million mark in a couple weeks. Looks like it might make a profit afterall despite the ridiculous budget, just as Fox claimed.
