Background Info
Enfinitum.net is, in a nutshell, the result of too much free time. After quitting WoW and starting my 2nd year of university, I found myself having a lot of free time and not a lot to do. Instead of wasting time playing other PC games , I figured I put my time to good use. The problem was, I didn’t know what to do.
One day while randomly opening my Facebook homepage, I saw a status update by one of my friends that read “Earned 30 usd from my site via Adsense this month”. This put the idea of making a website into my head. Earning 30 usd on a monthly basis for having a website certainly wasn’t a bad idea.
Furthermore, I had a considerable amount of webdesign skills acquired over the years from html to Photoshop to video editing. I even used to design websites for fun and at one point managed to acquire a .net domain for free by selling website templates. I stopped when my webhost died out and I started gaming a lot more.
The next step was determining what my site’s content would be. My old websites were based around Flash animation, but I wasn’t interested in it as I was before. I had many ideas including being a game review site, but quickly abandoned that idea as being a university student with basically no source of income wouldn’t support the job.
My summer holidays were coming to an end and while organising stuff from my first year, I came across notes on SWOT – Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat. I gave it a quick read and came to the conclusion that the site should simply focus around what I’m good at doing – wasting time on the internet, watching movies, finding music, playing games, etc. So why not write about all of those?
Now I needed a name. I took about a month to decide and had a notepad file full of possible domain names. The first name I thought of was everydayisthesame.net, obviously taken from the Nine Inch Nails song. Then there was normalsoverrated.com and again, stolen from some sort of House campaign. It became annoying because whenever I found a good name and told myself “this is the one I’ll use”, I would find a better name or have doubts about it the next day.
The best name I thought up was atheneuminfinitum.com, which I believe means ‘library without limits’ in Latin. I was a few minutes away from registering it when I thought of having a shorter domain name. I tried infinitum.com/net but they were taken. Out of curiosity, I tried replacing the i with an e to make enfinitum and expected it to be taken. Surprisingly, while the .com was taken the .net was free and was not an extremely overpriced premium domain, so I took it.

What publishing platform do you use?
I use the latest version of Wordpress. I’ve tried out numerous publishing platforms over the years, such as Movable Type, phpNuke, Mambo, etc. but none of them were easier and more flexible than Wordpress.
What theme is this?
This is a heavily modified version of a theme called CherryTruffle by ElegantThemes. The colour scheme resembles that of Gameriot.com, a site which I frequently visit. I made several modifications to the images and css used by the theme myself so if you end up using CherryTruffle for your own site, it won’t look like this.
What webhost do you run on?
The webhost I use is Just Host and so far I’ve had no issues with them. They offer very competitive prices and have a very good customer support system. Check them out.
